Stuck at Prom®

Prom season is coming up and I'm sure many of you are scrambling about looking for something to wear. Here's a solution: make something. I can hear it now: Are you daft!?

No, of course not. You need assistance raising funds to pay for college correct? You also need a complete outfit to wear to prom (or school dance) so that you can be the belle or beau of the ball.

This doesn't happen often but you can combine the two together. What does this get you? Duck Brand Duct® Tape Stuck at Prom® Scholarship Contest.

I first viewed this some years ago while exploring scholarship listings for unusual and creative scholarships. The official start of the contest is March 16, 2015 but I suggest you go ahead and get started with some brainstorming ideas for what you want the final product to look like. According to the Official Rules (a snippet) you have to be at least "13 years or older and will attend a high school, home school association or other school-sanctioned prom in 2015 (Stuck at Prom® Duck Brand site)."

Please utilize the link to the Official Rules above to read through the rules in their entirety. One of the main things you have to do is design as well as construct prom attire using duct tape. Create an awesome outfit with matching shoes and accessories.

Inspiration for Design
When in doubt, make use of your interests to get those creative juices flowing. If you love to cook or have a passion for food, design an outfit that reflects this in a mind blowing way. This brainstorming process can be applied towards whatever interests you could have in mind.

After exploring the selection of Duck® Brand duct tape products online, I'm astounded that the participants of the past contests were able to make up their minds for what they wanted to create. Into technology or all things computer related? Design an outfit that mimics a motherboard.

Themes that came to mind while browsing were:
  • sweet treats
  • kawaii
  • kawaii gone wild
  • fandom [designing an outfit to represent your favorite sports teams]
  • foodie,
  • royalty [they have metallic and glitter varieties of tape]
  • glowing at the disco [glow in the dark tape + their square prism tape]
  • around the world [via rolls/sheets of duct tape]
  • marsala en vogue
More of a knitter or crochet person? Devise a way to create strips of duct tape for knitting/crocheting items for wear. You have till June 1, 2015 to create and submit a pic of your creations.
