Edu Highlight: GP - Georgia Pacific

The first I heard of Georgia Pacific (GP) was on packs of copy paper I would see in the supply stores. Next while exploring potential school funding opportunities, there was a scholarship hosted by the company that involved writing an essay on a specific prompt; this was some years ago in 2008 or 2009. Outside of these items, not much was known about GP from my POV.

Recently while doing some research on scholarship opportunities hosted by the company, I came across information that went beyond what I typically associated with GP. The scholarships were familiar but I didn't know that they offered assistance in the form of preparing students for real world employment as well as helping those already in the workforce perfect their skills for future advancement.

They're supporters of Habitat for Humanity [builds and provides housing for families in need] and the Bucket Brigade [a program that helps fund fire departments with dwindling resources]. There are environmental awareness programs which teaches young students about the importance of maintaining a healthy environment. This includes their Education in Nature program that comes equipped with materials for instructors to utilize for an engaging learning experience.

Another biggie for me is their program for encouraging youths to engage in entrepreneurism. Youth Entrepreneurs® Georgia is basically a program that teaches young people how to become successful entrepreneurs by providing them with stepping stones and mentors to coach them through the process of starting as well as running their very own business.
