Fun in Learning with Lego®

Lego has been part of my childhood and has played an intriguing part in my growing up. We didn't have much room for the blocks but I did take an interest in a newly released series titled Bionicle. As far as Lego is concerned, all I knew about them were their wide array of products that could be utilized to construct just about anything.

They have expanded a great deal over the years to incorporate as well as cater to an expansive group of interested parties. Lego products have entered the classroom in a big way. Their products have inspired lots of creative minds to go beyond the mundane and create eye-opening products.

Some time in the evening of March 10, 2015 there was a BBC News report on a young boy who built and programed a braille printing machine out of Lego blocks and robotic parts. The end result wasn't a mere object but a product that's gaining momentum because its targeting a market that isn't thought of much when new developments are made in the tech industry.

Speaking of robotics, Lego Education helps to sponsor the FIRST [For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology] Lego League programs. In addition to the programs there is a science fair that's been running for around four (4) years; its called Google Science Fair.

The 2015 edition of the Google Science Fair is currently open for submissions and will remain open till May 18, 2015. This is an international competition for students between the ages of 13 and 18. All projects are submitted entirely online, so all students need to participate is a curious mind and an Internet connection (Lego Education, Google Science Fair section).

This is a great starting point for those looking to get a taste of science/tech careers. Remember, learn lots and have fun.
