Edu Highlight: Scholarship Points

SP Past
Five years to the day is the amount of time I've been present on the site. When I first started, there were loads of information present that helped with the college sign up process along with coping with all things college. One of my favorite features were the weekly articles highlighting key topics centering around higher education.

Financial Aid and scholarship highlights were of key interest and loved how the articles broke things down into manageable bites. Another favorite were the sponsored scholarships hosted by the site that rewarded anywhere from 500USD to 1,000USD in monthly scholarships to randomly selected winners. As an added bonus, they hosted quarterly drawings for 10K USD.

You would think signing up for these would be difficult but they weren't. All you had to do was sign in daily and participate in point earning activities. Once done, the points can then be utilized as entries into your scholarship drawings of choice. You can go as little as 1pt to as high as your entire point balance.

SP Present
Still a great place for finding scholarships. Recently the site has undergone a major overhaul that included a redesign of it's main as well as blog pages. Like a bulk of some of the scholarship sites out there, the layout and content is geared towards those entering college for the first time.

That said, those already enrolled can still participate in point earning and spending opportunities. Earning points is still the same with the exception that earning them has been expanded to weekly posts on their social media pages advertising bonus codes. The codes will usually yield 100pts or more.

What I Miss
Updates can be exciting at times but there are times when things get lost in the process. What is it that I miss?
  1. Neat, informative layout of links to important stuff. With the old layout, there were links in a sidebar and new to date info in the main portion.
  2. News articles relating to financial aid and scholarship opportunities.
  3. Ease of navigation from Point A to Point B.
  4. Articles and posts with SP codes attached for redemption.
  5. Sponsored contests that didn't involve entering points but entering creative pieces based on the provided prompt. Like their past challenges involving school spirit, dorm room decoration and videos promoting scholarships.
Don't get me wrong, the site is still a wonderful place to participate. Just be forewarned, the competition for any and all scholarships has increased exponentially. So try not to focus on a single contest.
