Contests to Win Stuff
There was mention of contests in past posts but most were broad in general. Outside of the typical fare, there are contests that are hosted which give out interesting stuff as prize. Some even include cash prizes.
Like scholarships, contests have lots of participants and chances of winning are 50:50 in most cases. Since art and design is a favorite past time, my focus goes towards creative contests. Blick Art Supplies hosts contests every once in a while and rewards winners with amazing as well as useful prizes.
Some of their past contests include the 12 Days of Gifting where each day yielded a winner. As the days progressed, the prizes increased in value. Another contest is their Marsala Art Contest where you have to compose a piece utilizing marsala-like colors.
Entries for the marsala contest can be submitted until 11:59 PM Central Standard Time.
DeviantART is another site that hosts periodical contests with prize rewards that range from cool gear to cash prizes. Entry into the contests are optional. Why did I say this?
Well, there are those who like to complain about the contests if it has something they don't like. One of the interesting aspects is that some of the contests are restricted by country; this is explained in the Help & FAQ section. Am personally looking forward to a contest that focuses on photography.
For those that do writing in your free time, Freelance Writing dot com is a nice starting point. In addition to contests, there's also a plethora of resources to help you in your writing ventures. Freelance Writing was compiled by Brian Scott.
