Employment Options

When one hears the term work, we immediately think brick and mortar locations. Fortunately these aren't the only options for employment which is wonderful if you have a lot on your plate. Another option for working revolves around tasks that are completed within the home.

These aren't random tasks per se as they're assigned by companies and businesses looking for extra workers to assist them in meeting their bottom line. They're similar to micro jobs in a sense but are fairly different in terms of consistency. By consistency I'm referring to work always being available in addition to timely income.

Your Options

Even if you're already working at a physical location, the option to work from home is still possible as it could function as a second or even tertiary job. Working from home isn't just about working another 9-to-5 like job but something that you can complete during hours that are doable if not convenient. Some options or rather positions that fall within this category include but aren't limited to: customer service, virtual assistant, delivery driver, tutor, data entry as well as sales rep.

Keep in mind the above is only a sampling as there are several different job types available within the work from home arena. Regardless if you have experience or not, some actually offer training though not many offer paid training. Some are probably saying that they can't go to school, work their day job and do at home work but that's far from fact.

There are jobs that specify needs for a particular type of worker. For instance, there are those that look for workers who are able to work 3rd shift hours or workers that are able to work weekends. Not only that but there are companies/businesses that are open to hiring international workers to join their team in addition to those that can speak more than one language.

How to Locate Work From Home Opportunities

Despite the simplicity of typing "work from home" into a search engine, the actual locating can be a bit daunting. The reason for this is that some companies/businesses utilize the phrase "remote worker." To top it off, not all the jobs that fall into this category can be found on their official sites but secondary professional sites of the likes of  indeed, Monster, Career Builder and the like.

A good starting point would be blogs and vlogs that focus on work from home opportunities. Some are general in the sense that they showcase and discuss a little bit of everything while others focus on one or two categories. Blogs that are geared toward parents looking for work to do from home often focus on a variety of opportunities.

While those that focus on one or two categories are usually niche specific. By niche specific I'm talking about blogs that focus on one thing like writing, design, photography, etc. Usually if there is talking on a specific topic another topic is often reference as it goes hand and hand with the other; like design and photography for example.

Preparations

Like any work on location job, you will need to have an up to date resume along with cover letter (not always but just in case). Despite the work from home tag, it will help if you have a space of some kind that you can dedicate or at least convert into a makeshift home office. If you're eyeing jobs that require communicating over a phone, then a space that is quiet needs to be located.

Also pay close attention to every little detail that is mentioned in the job post. If there is study material, go through that material with a fine tooth comb especially material that includes links to examples of what's being discussed. For those job applications that contain what looks like jargon terms if not phrases, don't hesitate to do research.
