Upcoming Scholarships

There is a scholarship coming due at the end of this month plus there are some semi new announcements about upcoming opportunities. Time is of the essence with the following scholarships but hopefully you can get a submission in by or before the deadline.

September 30

American Payroll Scholarship

The scholarship is hosted by the American Payroll Association of whom will grant three scholarships of varying amount to three fortunate participants. You have to read through the terms and conditions (rules) in order to understand the requirements in full. From the glance through, only one submission per person and you have to be enrolled in college.

The T&C also explains how the scholarship works and how one can go about the rewards if chosen. So please read through the rules carefully to ensure you aren't ruled out as a participant. Deadline is September 30th.

October

Students With A Heart Scholarship

Not necessarily a general scholarship but it is for those who "suffer from any Cardiac disease or deformities." You are required to submit a personal statement between 500 and 2,000 words discussing the the provided topic. The top three biggies here are 1) 3.0 GPA, 2) proof of cardiac disease/deformities and 3) academic documents from school.

There's more listed on the scholarship page that you can reference to ensure all your Ts are crossed come time for submission; the discussion topic is listed as well. Deadline is October 1st.

Save A Life Scholarship

Healthcare and education majors are eligible for this scholarship. In order to qualify, you must submit a 750 to 1,000 word response to the provided writing prompt. The deadline of October 1st is for the Fall session. Should you be interested and didn't make the cut for Fall, you're still able to apply for Spring Session whose deadline is May 1st.

Note Worthy Additions

Nikon Storytellers Scholarship

This is one of those early deadline scholarships I mentioned in a past post on Photography Scholarships. Applications for this scholarship open in late January and close in mid-March. US and Canadian students are eligible to apply and must have a GPA of 2.5 or more.

With the above, your major needs to fall within one of the six listed on the scholarship page within the eligibility section. You cannot be a freshman at the time of the application and you need a letter of recommendation. There's lots more listed in addition to an FAQ section.

You have from now to the start of the entry period to get everything in order as it's best to get everything in as early as possible.

American Society of Interior Designers (ASID)

Focus was just going to be on the scholarships but the ASID website hosts a plethora of information that's useful for scholars and professionals alike. To view the list of available scholarships, visit ASID.org and hover over Resources in the top navigation bar. A list of options will show while hover and the one you want is at the bottom under Scholarships & Grants.

If you're already in the interior design field, feel free to explore what the site has to offer. There's learning material, digital publications and job board. There's also a calendar of events that may interest you along with some news stories.

Blizzard Entertainment

Back in March there was a brief mention of an art contest that was hosted by Blizzard Entertainment. I wasn't aware at the time that the contest was part of their Student Programs division on the site. What's very likable about the student contest is the fact that they target a variety of majors rather than a single one and they're hosted throughout the year.

You know I go monotonous a bit when it comes to the importance of internships? Well, Blizzard has them in a variety of disciplines and are held during the summer months from May to September - for some not all. The latest internship opportunity that's present is located in Nederlands and starts in October.

You'll be working as an Analytics Intern for six months and as far as I can tell there's no residential location restriction; however, it doesn't hurt to ask to be sure. Keep a close and sharp eye on the Student section of the Blizzard career page because new opportunities are added whenever available and fill just as fast. So bookmark the page and also take a look at their job openings page for opportunities should you already be working in the field and are looking for a change.

Keep Moving Forward

Don't be discouraged if you're winning little to no scholarships and contests. Take them in stride and keep pushing ahead as you're bound to win something in the future. A new season is around the corner and with it new seasonal work opportunities.
