Scholarship Reel: April

You're not going to believe this but I have another deadline reel to share. Strange considering the frequency or lack thereof. The scholarships that will be shared are from all over the place with no specific category.

While hunting for scholarships, focus is highly placed on results that don't have restrictions or residency requirements. Namely, living and attending in a specific state. Even if they are desirable, I try to keep the options within reach.

The Refractories Institute (TRI)

For those of you looking to expand upon your education of refractory materials then this scholarship is for you. Essentially, it's a scholarship for those that take part in activities relating to any and works that require the use of a kiln to create. So if you're a forger of ceramics and the like, then this is definitely something to look into.

The deadline for this scholarship is April 13, 2018 so be sure to read through the page as there are things you need to obtain and submit.

Brooke Ashton Parker Scholarship & Memorial Fund

Unlike the above, this one is for those within the West Texas and Panhandle Area. On the up note, it's for those looking to study and or currently studying a discipline within the Sports Science and Sports Medicine fields. Deadline for this scholarship is also April 13, 2018.

Even if you're not eligible or looking to help out with the scholarship funding, then you can donate what you can using the Donations tab.

Penguin Group USA

Most of everyone can recall seeing if not reading a book or more featuring an orange spine and or a penguin emblem prior to entering college. These books were published by a subsidiary known as Penguin. Whether the flashbacks to reading the books were pleasant or not you'll surely be pleased to know that they're hosting two essay contests this year: one for the 14-16 (May 5 deadline) age group and one for the 16-18 (April 21 deadline) age group.

The requirements for both essays is to read the book specified, if you haven't read it already. Once the ready part is complete then you are to choose a discussion question of which your essay will focus on. All this info can be located within the Official Rules section; link within the essay sections.

This is possibly one of those moments where it's a good idea to go that extra step and mail out the finished pieces via priority if not express mail.

Science Without Borders Challenge

First things first, this is a contest that is open to participants age 11 to 19 and the deadline is April 23, 2018. Second, it's international and third it involves art. This challenge is hosted by the Khaled bin Sultan Living Oceans Foundation and have been observing and studying the world's oceans continuously since the year 2000.

LOF has hosted these challenges for many years and each year presents a new theme for which to convey an important message to the viewing audience. Entries to past challenges have conveyed their messages in a way that call for closer looks as the representations of the themes are very much outside the box. Feel free to explore the rest of the site as there's a plethora of resources to explore.

Honorable Mentions

American Society of Interior Designers

A nice list of funding opportunities for those within the field of interior design. There's a lot of information present so some time is needed to go through everything.

Nikon USA

To me this is a rare find as most scholarships relating to photography are difficult to find if not catch. The 2018-2019 session is over but don't let that stop you from brushing up on things before the next session; this includes gathering important paper work.
